What happens when a .co domain is not renewed

Good to know about .co
- A .co can be registered for at most five years at a time, half the ten-year limit of .com, so long prepaid terms run out sooner.
- Released .co names are purged one by one, 60 to 120 seconds after their five pending-delete days end, not in a daily batch.
- The registry moved .co onto CentralNic's platform and standard periods; older guides describing odd .co timings are out of date.

Can my registrar auction my expired .co?
Not without the registry's written approval. Since 1 October 2026 the .CO expired domain policy requires a lapsed .co to run through the normal lifecycle, and bars registrars from selling, auctioning or keeping it for anyone else while you can still renew or restore it.
Who runs the .co registry?
.CO Registry (operated by CentralNic). Renewal prices and the grace period you actually get are set by your registrar within the registry's rules.
