What happens when a .uk domain is not renewed
| Phase | How long | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Expiry grace | 30 days | The domain still resolves and you can renew it as normal. |
| Redemption | 60 days (day 30 to day 90) | The site and email stop working, but you can still renew it through your registrar. |
| Pending delete | 5 days (day 90 to day 95) | It can no longer be renewed. It drops at the UTC time Nominet publishes, 95 days after expiry, and anyone can register it. |

Good to know about .uk
- From 9 February 2027 Nominet moves .uk to up to 45 days of auto-renew grace, 30 days of redemption and 5 days of pending delete.
- Nominet publishes the exact time each lapsed .uk name will drop in a daily list, so drop-catchers know when to strike.
- .co.uk, .org.uk and plain .uk names are all registered with Nominet, so a .co.uk follows exactly the same expiry timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check when a .uk domain expires?
Enter the domain in the checker above. We read the expiry date from the registry's RDAP server, the modern replacement for WHOIS. That is the registry's own record. The result shows the expiry date and the days left.
What happens when a .uk domain is not renewed?
Works 30 days past expiry, renewable to day 90, dropped on day 95. In order: Expiry grace (30 days), then Redemption (60 days (day 30 to day 90)), then Pending delete (5 days (day 90 to day 95)).
Will Nominet warn me before my .uk is suspended?
Yes, if your registrar has not renewed it. Nominet emails the registrant one day after expiry, again on day 23 to say the domain will be suspended in 7 days, on day 30 when it is suspended, and on day 83 before it is cancelled. The first email names your registrar and its website; the later ones tell you to contact your registrar.
Who runs the .uk registry?
Nominet. Nominet, not your registrar, sets the .uk timeline: a lapsed name keeps working for 30 days, can be renewed until day 90 and drops on day 95. Renewal prices are up to your registrar.
